Traveling With Pets

Perhaps you simply cannot leave your beloved pet at home when traveling. They may miss you too much and get sick, or maybe you just don’t have anyone caring for them while you are away. However, traveling with pets is not always simple. Here are some tips on how to make the trip easier on both you and your pet.

Research the regulations first
Every like has different rules and fees. You may want to check where is your pet allowed while on the plane, which can be next to you or as baggage. If you want to be on the safe side, make sure the chosen airline has enough experience in transporting pets. You don’t want your pet to get hurt or even worse, lost.

Keep the pet’s papers in check
Your pet will need to have all the vaccines done. If traveling abroad, a period of quarantine may be needed. Do your research as to be prepared for any situation that could potentially ruin your plans. Have the pet’s tags attached to a collar on its neck, for easy recognition.

Buy a comfortable carrier
Even if you already have a carrier for regular vet check-ups, a larger may be needed for a long trip. Try it out before leaving, just to make sure your pet feels completely comfortable with it. Give your pet some time to get used to it and you have higher chances of a peaceful flight.

Relax your pet before the trip
Some pets are hyperactive and more difficult to travel with. Relax your pet by playing with it before you leave, and perhaps use a bit of calming lavender oil on your hands. If your pet feels relaxed, you will not have to worry as much about a long flight.
